PHP - Originally named PHP for 'Personal Home Page (Tools)', but later changed to 'Hypertext Pre-Processor'. Developed in 1995 for a personal project by Rasmus Lerdorf (using a set of Perl scripts) and later released to the public in 1997 (with added C functionality).

PHP grow to become the most popular web server-side scripting language in a very short space of time, and 10 years later is still the most commonly used.

PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML
